About Lauren

Lauren C. Tyson is a liquor license consultant with decades of experience, including 29 years working at the California Alcohol Beverage Control as an investigator, supervising investigator and district administrator.


She is a recognized expert in liquor licensing, liquor law enforcement, and responsible alcohol service.


In 2009, she founded Liquor License Advisor (now Tyson Liquor License Consulting) to help businesses and protect public health and safety.

Career Highlights:


California Department of Alcohol Beverage Control (1976-2005)

As an ABC Supervising Investigator and District Administrator, Lauren designed and administered the Licensee Education on Alcohol and Drugs (LEAD) Program; supervised four investigators/trainers and one support staff, developed curriculum and training materials, program evaluation (1-91 - 6-04); trained and supervised 21 investigator-trainers from 1991-2005.


As an ABC Supervising Investigator in Southern and Western Los Angeles County (Inglewood District Office of the ABC), she planned and directed field enforcement, backtrack investigations, coordinate task forces, evidence locker control, training for licensees and conduct roll call training for local law enforcement officers; acting district administrator in his absence (3/1989-12/1990).

As an ABC Investigator, Lauren handled investigations to detect or verify suspected violations of law, rule or regulation; made arrests/issued citations; located and interviewed witnesses; examined records; gathered facts, statements and affidavits; prepared reports; conducted investigations on applications for new licenses and license transfers; conducted training for law enforcement agencies on ABC law. Participated in task forces and conducted background investigations on new sworn hires (1988).


Offices worked include San Bernardine District Office, Southern Division Headquarters-Cerritos (6/85-10/88), Oakland District Office (10/88-1/89), and Santa Ana District Office (1/89-3/89)

Professional Memberships

  1. Governor's Interagency Coordinating Council for the Prevention of Alcohol and Other Drug Problems (GPAC). GPAC activities include assessing shared alcohol problem prevention data, identifying effective approaches, establishing high-level prevention objectives, implementing resource coordination, leveraging to achieve objectives. Council priority was binge drinking among 12-25 year old's. (2002-05)

  4. California Coordinating Council on Responsible Beverage Service (1992-2004). Under a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, developed standards for responsible beverage service training programs to reduce harm from irresponsible and illegal alcohol sales.
